(v (Greg PhilipponGreg Philippon V$$@Q0T$$@A!v vzHAs OK folks, here it is. I have had so many requests for information on cable box and test chip suppliers that I created a text file with all the necessary info. The following list has been compiled over the last couple of monast couple of monhips, notchths. These are suppliers that I have dealt with for one reason or another. They all supply cable converters, test chips, notch filters, remotes, supplies, and many other cable goods. Converters that are bought from these suppliers are normally "bulletproof" (which means the cable company cannot shut the box off) and already programmed to get and unscramble all of the channels (basic, premium, it off) and already programmed to get and unscramble all of the channels (premium,e all of the channels (premium, pay-per-view, etc.). You should, however, check to make sure the box is set up to do what you want before purchasing it. A test chip can either be a single EPROM-type chip that is soldered or socketed into your existing cable box (as a replacement for an existing chip) OR it can be a spider kit (which is a couple of components that are already soldered onto a small pc board that has to be connected to your existing cable box by soldering a few wires to certain points on the main board in your box). If you are purchasing a test chip please make sure to ask if its a chip or a spider kit and if its bulletproof. If the item you purchase or modify is not bulletproof you are going to need to buy a system-specific notch filter or BULLET BUSTER. (A bullet buster is just an expensive in-line filter). Each brand of cable box has its own specific control frequency (usually in the FM broadcast band). Think of your cable box as a pager. It constantly monitors the control his is how, for example, your cable compfrequency for programming info. This is how, for example, your cable company tells your box to allow you to see a pay-per-view event. The filter or Bullet Buster just stops that contre a pay-per-view event. The filter or Bullet Buster just stops that control signal from entering your box. A bulletproof box or chip, in a nutshell, does not respond to the cable companys commands because the box does not have an ESN (electronic serial number - like a pager or cell-phone) and therefore does not need an in-line filter. A supplier will not sell to you if you are in the same state as the supplier. This is for obvious legal reasons. Remember, cable theft is a no-no. Do it at your own risk and make sure you understand the liabilities you understand the liabilities of getting caught. By the way, there are people who think that the cable company can tell if you are using illegal equipment. As far as Im concerned its BS. The cable company may be able to tell if you have a box hooked to the line BUT they cannot tell if the box is legal or not. (They cannot tell from the office - but they can tell if they come to your pad and test the line feed that runs into your pad). Think about it. Does a paging company know if the pager you wear on your belt has actually received the page it just sent out? I think not! Same thing with cable boxes. Here is the list of suppliers. Some of these suppliers will take credit card orders (goody!) and some insist on COD deliveries ONLY! There is one company I use the most. They can be reached at (800)841-0244. The guys name is Al. If you tell him what box you have or need (brand of box and exact model number) he can probably help you. He has a large selection of "test chips" as well as converters and descramblers. His prices are reasonable and his stuff is bulletproof. He does insist on COD deliveries however. Good luck and have fun. Repo Man (%!!!%:$"!&55% -&$O@1 1:&@):$7~ /l^Fmv~rɊMPsYsX HuuC:?&?K-?'}a ^
